When the Town of Westford, MA decided they needed to rehabilitate and expand the Westford Senior Center, LandTech was tasked with providing complete surveying and civil engineering services for the project. Originally built in 1872 as a schoolhouse, the Cameron School was converted to the Cameron Senior Center in 1992. As the services of the center grew, it wasn’t long before the need for renovation and expansion began to materialize. Built on a small lot within one of the villages in Westford, LandTech needed to accommodate the site planning for a major addition, additional parking and drainage as well as a new septic system. The design was further complicated by sensitive environmental issues of an abutting lake and an adjacent baseball field that needed to be retained on the site.
DESIGN
By designing subsurface drainage under the expanded parking areas, utilizing one-way traffic flows for access and placing the new septic system under the adjacent baseball field, LandTech was able to accommodate all needs of the expansion within the existing site constraints. Additional design components included improving ADA access requirements by redesigning accessible parking, access, and drop off close to the building.
DEVELOP
With renovations completed, the Cameron Senior Center is now a focal point in the town for numerous busy senior activities, as well as providing additional municipal space when needed.
